National Security Bodies Detected Another Case of Embezzlement of Especially Large Amount by Fraud from Mother of Serviceman
Based on materials prepared in Yerevan City Department of the National Security Service of RA, factual data were obtained that H.M., having learned that a conscript serviceman, participating in the war unleashed by the Azerbaijani side on 27 September, 2020, went missing, with the intention of embezzlement of an especially large amount by fraud, informed the mother of the latter that, allegedly using the available authoritative connections abroad, in particular, the Chechen Republic and the Syrian Republic, he could take measures to detect and transfer his missing son to the Republic of Armenia, thereby winning her trust.
H. M., carrying out his criminal intent, during further meetings with the mother, misleading the latter, first under the pretext of obtaining accurate information about the whereabouts of the son, and then, allegedly, his transfer from one of the prisons of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the city of Baku, in July-August 2021, from the mother of a missing serviceman, he received in installments an especially large amount of 7,000 USD, equivalent to 3,430,000 AMD and 60,000 AMD, and, having stolen the indicated amount by fraud, used it for personal needs.
Within the framework of the criminal case initiated in the Investigation Department of the RA NSS in connection with the incident of committing fraud on an especially large scale, H. M. was detained. Based on substantiated evidence obtained during the preliminary investigation, he was charged under the relevant article of the RA Criminal Code and a petition was submitted to the court to apply detention as a measure of restraint.
In case of confirmation of guilt in the manner prescribed by law, H. M. faces up to 8 years of prison.
At the current stage of the investigation of the criminal case, the necessary procedural actions, operative-search and other measures are being taken in the direction of finding out all the circumstances of the case and disclose other possible crimes committed by the mentioned person.
The National Security Service once again urges to refrain from concluding suspicious transactions with persons with possible criminal inclinations, assuring that the state continues to take effective measures in the direction of returning our compatriots in captivity to the homeland.
Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his/her guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
