Another Case of Illegal Trafficking of Drugs in Especially Large Amounts through Smuggling Prevented by NSS

Employees of the Department of Economic Security and Countering Corruption of the RA National Security Service on 11 May, 2021, found two icons in the shipment delivered to a freight company by a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran A.A. and going to Japan in the composition of which methamphetamine was found - a drug of the "Crystal" type in especially large amounts.

As a result of professional actions of the investigative group in the criminal case initiated in the Investigation Department of the RA National Security Service on the facts of smuggling and illegal trafficking of drugs in especially large amounts for the purpose of sale, as well as employees of the Department of Economic Security and Countering Corruption of the RA NSS, and checking the available versions, during a search conducted on 2 June, 2021 in one of the apartments belonging to a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran H.K. located in the Kentron administrative district of Yerevan city, 3 more similar icons were found, in the composition of which "methamphetamine " type of  drug was found.

As a result, it was established that in May 2021, a number of Iranian citizens transported, hiding from customs control, in disguised form- the indicated drugs mixed with the composition of the icons to the territory of the Republic of Armenia from the Islamic Republic of Iran on trucks that were prepared for their smuggling out of the Republic of Armenia.

The total weight of the "methamphetamine" drug in particularly large sizes, found as a result of complex investigative and procedural actions carried out by the NSS employees, amounted to about 7kg.

On suspicion of committing the mentioned crimes, within the framework of the criminal case being investigated in the Investigation Department of NSS, 4 citizens of the Islamic Republic of Iran were detained and then arrested, the icons found were sent for a forensic chemical examination. Necessary procedural actions are being taken in the direction of identifying all the circumstances of the case, as well as establishing the full circle of persons involved in the scheme of illegal import of the drugs to RA through smuggling.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
