Azerbaijani Special Services Tried to Extract Information about RA Armed Forces via Internet

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, pursuing the implementation of actions and powers vested upon it by the RA legislation in the field of information security and fight against intelligence subversive activities of special services of foreign states, continues to detect criminal aspirations of special services of Azerbaijan, as well as to counteract the protracted anti-Armenian actions and those aimed at discrediting the RA Armed Forces by Azerbaijani users on various Internet platforms.

From the data obtained during the operative-search measures conducted in the indicated direction, it can be seen that the “professional intelligence agents” of the special services of the Azerbaijan Republic, remaining faithful to their typical primitive modus operandi and using the opportunities of modern information technologies, continue to register fake pages on social networks under the names of Armenians living abroad and introducing themselves as businessmen-philanthropists, or former servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia, get acquaintances with Armenian servicemen-users, or their relatives and try to extract information of military nature during interactions.

The actions of the special services of the Republic of Azerbaijan are so uniform and primitive that the servicemen-users of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia almost from the very first expression understand that they are dealing with the Azerbaijani "powerful intelligence" and stop communicating with them, and immediately inform the relevant authorities.

Nevertheless, despite the above noted circumstance, there are still separate servicemen in the RA Armed Forces, including among the command personnel, who naively believing that they are communicating with their former colleagues or subordinates, discuss issues related to military service during correspondence.

During the operative-search measures, it was established that a user-employee of the Azerbaijani special services, using a fictitious (fake) page registered on "Facebook" social network, entered into correspondence with a senior officer of the RA Armed Forces and tried to extract information from him about the RA Armed Forces.

The National Security Service once again urges the citizens of the Republic of Armenia, especially servicemen, to refrain from interactions with unfamiliar users on social networks and not to discuss issues related to military service, and we ask those persons and servicemen who find themselves in such a situation, proceeding from their own interests, to immediately contact the National Security Service.
