User Publishing and Disseminating Fake News Harming Security Interests of RA Detected

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, pursuing the implementation of the functions and powers vested upon it by the RA legislation in the sphere of information security, continues to detect the users publishing and disseminating false information in the internet harming the security of the state, society and person.

In particular, on 3 January 2020 information was posted on Facebook page "Դիանա Հարությունյան" (Diana Harutyunyan) according to which RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan allegedly congratulated the President of the US on operation carried out against Iranian top military official. The fake news was also spread among Azerbaijani and Iranian mass media.  Public dissemination and speculation of fake news with such content in the field of information and outreach aimed at inciting national, racial and religious hatred considerably harmed the national security interests of the Republic of Armenia

As a result of operational and search measures undertaken by the National Security Service of RA, the person who conducted the fake Facebook page "Դիանա Հարությունյան" was identified. The latter was brought in and gave an explanation about his actions.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA on the fact of an apparent crime on the basis of the corresponding article of the Criminal Code of RA; preliminary investigation is being conducted. The user of the fake Facebook page "Դիանա Հարությունյան" was detained.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
