Another Case of Making and Realizing Counterfeit Medicines Detected

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, implementing one of the main directions of its activities aimed at combating crimes, as a result of operational and search measures conducted by the operational subdivisions of the NSS of RA, detected another case of making and realizing counterfeit medicines.

In particular, on 18 September 2019 an administrative proceeding was initiated in the Health and Labor Inspectorate of RA based on the materials received from the National Security Service; within the framework of the mentioned proceeding the officers of the Inspectorate conducted an inspection in a pharmacy in Yerevan belonging to an individual entrepreneur. As a result of the inspection, a medicine - Fluconazole-Asteria 150mg N2 – was detected, and for examination purposes it was sent for expertise to one of the centers of expertise under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

According to the conclusion, the detected medicine didn’t meet the requirements envisaged by the Law On Medicines of the Republic of Armenia.

In this connection a criminal case was initiated in the Investigation Department of RA NSS according to the corresponding article of the Criminal Code of RA.

The National Security Service of RA once again urges the economic entities engaged in pharmaceutical activities to produce, import, distribute, administer, sell and use only those medicines that are registered in the Republic of Armenia, except the cases envisaged by the Law On Medicines of the Republic of Armenia.

The measures taken by the National Security Service of RA will have a continuous nature in order to detect such cases in the future.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA by the court decision entered into legal force.
