Another Drug Smuggling and Trafficking Case Detected
The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, having taken the measures — within the functions vested upon it by the law — to combat crime and to detect and prevent the illegal ways of import of narcotic drugs, as a result of operative-search measures and investigative activities detected another drug smuggling and trafficking case.
In particular, on 19 November 2019, upon the arrival, through Meghri customs point, to Kilikia bus station in Yerevan by Tehran-Yerevan minibus — under the operational control of the national security bodies of RA — and while getting into a taxi, the citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran was brought in; the latter had smuggled to Armenia particularly large amount of narcotic drug, methamphetamine, which was detected by the officers of the National Security Service of RA.
According to the corresponding article of the Criminal Code of RA, criminal case was initiated in the Investigation Department of RA NSS on the fact of an apparent crime; the foreigner, who had been brought in, was detained. Besides, factual information was received according to which he had previously illegally imported narcotic drugs to the Republic of Armenia and had been engaged in their selling.
Preliminary investigation is being conducted.
Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
