Cases of Demanding and Receiving Bribe by Chairperson of Medical Social Expert Committee Detected

As a result of large-scale operative-search measures and investigative activities the officers of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia have detected other cases of demanding and receiving a bribe.

In particular, according to the obtained preliminary data, chairperson of one of the   Medical Social Expert Committees of the Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs in Yerevan, abusing official position, in order to provide disability category or to reconfirm the existing one, without any grounds, demanded from around two dozen RA citizens, who applied for medical expertise within the period of August-September 2019, and received substantial amounts of money as a bribe.

According to the corresponding articles of the Criminal Code of RA, a criminal case has been initiated in the Investigation Department of RA NSS on the fact of the apparent crime. As a result of conducted operative-search measures alongside with implemented investigative activities at the moment of taking a bribe the mentioned official was detained and brought in.

Under the pressure of undeniable evidence the chairperson of the Medical Social Expert Committee gave confessionary statements taking into account which a written undertaking not to leave the place has been chosen as a measure of restraint.  The preliminary investigation goes on; measures are being taken to detect other criminal incidents and other possible persons' involvement in the corruption chain.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
