Cases of Drug Trafficking in Especially Large Amounts Detected

Officers of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, as a result of integrated operative and search measures and investigation activities undertaken within the framework of the implementation of functions aimed at the fight against illicit trafficking and smuggling of drugs, detected cases of illegal drug trafficking in especially large amounts by a group of persons with prior agreement.

In particular, operative data have been obtained in the NSS of RA that 2 RA citizens transported through Armenian-Iranian border “methamphetamine” type of drug in especially large amounts, nearly 1 kg, for the purpose of sale (on the “black market” the price of 1 gram of “methamphetamine” type of drug is 100-120 thousand AMD). As a result of operative and search activities conducted by officers of the NSS, on 9 July 2019 the drug was found in a car while being transported, in the town of Kapan; the indicated persons were detained and brought in.

On another case, according to preliminary data obtained as a result of large-scale operative and search measures undertaken by officers of the NSS and SRC of RA, a group of persons organized, via postal package from US, the smuggling into the territory of Armenia of MDMA (“ecstasy”) in especially large amount, 148 pills, (on the “black market” the price of 148 MDMA pills is nearly 1.5 mln. AMD). On 8 July 2019 the receiving of the package from the post-office was conducted under the operational control of officers of the NSS of RA; the indicated persons, once they received the package, were detained and brought in.

In the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA, criminal cases have been initiated on the fact of the apparent crimes, according to corresponding articles of the Criminal Code of RA. Charges have been brought against 3 persons, arrest has been chosen as a measure of restraint.

The preliminary investigation goes on.
