As a result of large-scale operative-search measures undertaken by the officers of the National Security Service of RA a case of extortion of large amount committed by a group of persons was detected.
According to obtained preliminary data, 2 citizens of the Republic of Armenia, under the pretext of receiving “desirable” medical conclusion for the conscript, met the chief of unit of one of the medical centers of Yerevan and, during the meeting, following the pre-designed “scenario”, conducted relevant conversation about demanding and receiving money and recorded it. Later on, they demanded 1500 USD threatening to publicize the record with defamatory information about the chief of unit.
On 20 June 2019, under the control of the officers of RA NSS, the amount, 1500USD, was handed to the aforementioned persons, after which they were arrested.
In connection with the apparent crime incident a criminal case has been instituted in the Investigation Department of the NSS of RA under the relevant articles of the Criminal Code of RA. Two individuals were indicted, detention was chosen as a measure of restraint. Preliminary investigation is being conducted.

Note: A person suspected in or charged with a criminal offense shall be presumed innocent unless proved guilty in the manner prescribed by the Criminal Procedure Code of RA and unless the verdict comes into legal force.
