Solemn Event Dedicated to 30th Anniversary of Formation of Border Guard Troops Held

The servicemen of the Border Guard Troops of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia celebrated the 30th anniversary of their formation.

The event was attended by RA Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Director of the RA National Security Service Major General Armen Abazyan, RA Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan, the head of RA Police Major General Vahe Ghazaryan and other officials.

The event began to the sound of the RA national anthem.

The Prime Minister of RA, congratulating the servicemen of the Border Guard Troops, noted in his speech:

“Throughout the history of our Third Republic, the Border Guard Troops have contributed to the preservation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia and, together with our army, have fulfilled the tasks that were assigned to the army. But I want to emphasize that, in terms of idea and concept, the Border Guard Troops are generally a symbol of peace and an emblem of peace.”

The main event of the day was solemn march, which was accompanied by the sounds of the orchestra of the Border Guard Troops.

Through the mediation of the Prime Minister and the Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia, for bravery and devotion demonstrated in defending the borders of the Motherland, Captain Hrant Gevorg Arzumanyan was posthumously awarded the “Medal of Courage”, and senior sergeant Karlen Edik Sargsyan was posthumously awarded the “Medal of Combat Service”. The awards were presented to family members of the servicemen who died heroically.

The "Medal of Combat Service" was also awarded to Lieutenant Colonel Vahan Valeri Hambardzumyan and Major Vladimir Sergey Tumasyan.

According to tradition, the song “We are border guards” was played, after which, accompanied by the orchestra, the servicemen of the Border Guard Troops demonstrated drill techniques, and the Cynology Center demonstrated a set of combat exercises performed by service dogs.

At the end of the event, the RA Prime Minister, the Director of the RA NSS, the Commander of the Border Guard Troops of the RA NSS, high-ranking guests and heads of departments paid tribute and laid flowers at the khachkar-memorials established to the memory of the border guards who heroically died while fulfilling their duty to the Motherland.
