Activity of Another Criminal Group Involved in Organizing Illegal Migration Detected and Neutralized

As a result of complex operative-search measures and investigative actions taken by the employees of the Yerevan City Department and the Investigation Department of the RA National Security Service, a body of sufficient data was obtained that a number of persons engaged in tourism activities, by prior agreement with each other, for mercenary purposes organized the illegal migration of about two dozen citizens of the Republic of Armenia to foreign countries, which they carried out in order to obtain the latter a proper permit to enter foreign countries, providing fake documents and information.

During the preliminary investigation searches were carried out at the addresses of residence of members of the criminal group involved in organizing illegal migration, in travel agencies, as a result of which devices and equipment intended for the production of fake documents, passports of citizens, obviously fake documents necessary for organizing illegal migration were found, other items and things intended for the commission of the crime.

In the preliminary investigation of the criminal case, the identities of those citizens of the Republic of Armenia who illegally left or tried to leave the territory of the Republic of Armenia through travel companies were also established. The mentioned persons and their relatives in their statements described the actions of persons involved in the criminal scheme, provided information about the amount of money transferred or promised.

On the basis of direct suspicion of committing a crime, five persons have been detained; motions have been filed to the court to choose arrest as a measure of restraint against three of them.

The RA National Security Service once again informs that the RA Criminal Code provides for imprisonment for up to eight years for organizing illegal migration, and warns that the Service will continue the work of prevention of such crimes and their full disclosure.

Note: The suspect or accused of an alleged crime is considered innocent as long as his guilt is not proven in a manner prescribed by the Code of Criminal Procedure of RA - by the court decision entered into legal force.
